The Brief

Not every granny flat starts with a generous backyard. This Bonnyrigg Heights property had limited space. The task was to create a cosy two-bedroom home while preserving both existing houses. The solution was clever design.

The Site

This granny flat was built behind the existing house. There was not much room on the block, but with proper assessment, clever design and careful consideration of the occupants, a 60m2, 2 bedroom granny flat was constructed with it’s own separate access on the right hand side. The occupants of both dwellings now live harmoniously.

Our Approach

Every square metre is needed to make it work. The completed granny flat has two bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen, and a combined bathroom/laundry. It also features an alfresco area, all designed with care within the available space. Upgraded finishes include tiling throughout, floor-to-ceiling bathroom tiles, a shaving cabinet, a semi-framed shower screen, a polished polyurethane kitchen, a stone benchtop, and quality appliances and fittings.
