What is a healthy, high performance, low energy home?
At Vivo, we want to shout out to the world that there is a better building method that produces a healthy, high performing quality home. Using Passive House principles without the rigorous certification, you can be free of damp, mould, bacteria and drafts with minimal heating and cooling. The result is reduced energy costs and year-round comfort. All this can be achieved by:
Orientation
This is all about building for the local climate with consideration for shade and solar access.
Window Type & Positioning
Low E glass, double glazing and triple glazing are options to improve the performance of the windows along with window sizing and placement.
Adequate Ventilation
Incorporating a ventilation system means that the air in your home is filtered and constantly replenished. This leads to fewer pollutants in the air and lower risk of condensation.
Airtightness
An airtight building envelope ensures that there are only a very limited amount of gaps and cracks within your envelope significantly improving thermal comfort. No more draughts.
Adequate insulation
Sufficient insulation within the building envelope provides enough thermal separation between the heated or cooled conditioned inside environment and the outdoors. This improves thermal comfort and reduces the risk of condensation.
Minimising Thermal Bridges
Thermal bridging occurs when there is a break in or penetration of the building envelope. They are generally caused by wall and floor junctions. The key to minimising thermal bridges is keeping penetrations to a minimum and sufficient continuous insulation.
